Steven Belgrade Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reuland & Turnbough Funeral Directors - Lake Forest on Dec. 23, 2024.
Steven B. Belgrade, a cherished family man and respected attorney, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on December 1, 2024, in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Born on August 4, 1950 in Chicago, he was a beacon of wisdom, humor, and love throughout his 74 years.
Steve's life was one of dedication, both to his family and his profession. He was a devoted husband to Mary Kelly Belgrade for 48 years, a loving father to his children Annie, Emily, and Evan, father-in-law to Rebecca Bladen, and grandfather to Lily Belgrade. Steve was the son of the late Maurice and the late Emma Belgrade (née Ross), brother to Barbara Eres, and uncle of Mark Eres. He was also close with cousins Enid Goodman and Jeffrey Ross.
An alumnus of Loyola University of Chicago, Steve's pursuit of knowledge was evident with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, followed by a Juris Doctor from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. Steve was a member of the Illinois and Indiana Bars and was admitted to practice before several U.S. District and Appellate Courts, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court.
Throughout a distinguished career, Steve developed expertise in admiralty and maritime claims, personal injury defense, transportation law, and general litigation. His professional affiliations (including those with the Maritime Law Association, Chicago Ocean Marine Association, American Board of Trial Advocates, and Transportation Lawyers Association) were a testament to his commitment within his field. His passion for the law was not confined to practice alone; he returned to teach at Loyola University of Chicago and served as a mentor and dear friend to many colleagues over the years.
Steve loved the Chicago Blackhawks and was a dedicated season ticket holder for most of his life. He enjoyed spending time in Door County, Wisconsin, traveling to Aruba, watching movies, and visiting favorite restaurants with his family and friends. Steve's joyous smile and contagious laugh could fill a room. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Steve's life will be held in the Spring of 2025 with details to be announced. A private interment was held at Lake Forest Cemetery, Lake Forest, Illinois. For information – Reuland & Turnbough Funeral Directors of Lake Forest, 847-234-9649 or www.RTfunerals.com.
