Steven Wayne Betteridge, 66, died peacefully on December 12, 2024 in Hanford, California following a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kimberly (Huston) Betteridge; his sons, Shawn Betteridge (Julie) and Jeremy Betteridge (Rosela); his daughter, Jessica Betteridge; and eight grandchildren, Makayla, Christopher, Ophelia, Tristan, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Iya-Lin, and Rylie.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Betteridge. He is survived by his step-mother Nancy Betteridge; and siblings, Gregory Betteridge (Glenda), Michael Betteridge (Shelley-deceased), Keith Betteridge (Jane), and Marilyn Douglas (Brian), and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Steve was born and raised in East Liverpool, OH and after high school joined the United States Marine Corps as an Aircraft Mechanic on the F-4 Phantom and the F/A-18 Aircrafts. Throughout his illustrious career, Steve earned the Expert Rifle Badge 5th Award, Sharpshooter Pistol Badge, Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 1 star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation with 1 star, and 2 Meritorious Masts. Steve ended his career as an E-7 (GySgt) stationed at NAS Lemoore where he served as the Maintenance Controller for VFA-125.
During his military career, he attended night school at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and earned a BS Professional Aeronautics degree. After serving over 20 years in the USMC, he started his second career in the California Public Education system where he earned his Masters and Administrative Credential at Chapman University. He spent the majority of his teaching and administrative career at Reef-Sunset School District. His passion for teaching will live on in the lives of the students and co-workers he touched.
He was a dedicated member of South Valley Community Church and was passionate about serving our Lord Jesus Christ through his leadership on the Executive Board and his love of music on the Sunday Worship Team. Other hobbies he enjoyed included multiple woodworking projects and playing golf with friends and family.
A date for his Celebration of Life has yet to be determined but we look forward to celebrating his life with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Parkinson's Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

I served with Steve, in Beaufort SC at MCAS Beaufort, on F4J's. I served with him again in Lemoore Ca, on F18's, at NAS Lemoore. I considered him a close friend. While in Lemoore we played on the same Softball, and Football teams. He was a great guy, and one Hell of a Marine. RIP Buttercup, I will miss you my friend. Peace be with your family.

When Steve's father was the minister, my family belonged to Longs Runs Presbyterian Church in Calcutta, Ohio. When my sister and I took classes to join church, we took a field trip to the Seminary in Pittsburgh and Steve joined our class on the trip.
