In Loving Memory of Steve Bly Celebrating a Life of Passion, Purpose, and Faith
Steve Bly passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 9th, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Steve lived with a full heart, anchored by deep faith, joyful ambition, and a genuine love for people.
Steven Scott Bly was born on December 21, 1963 in Hamilton, Virginia. Due to his father's career in the United States Air Force, Steve and his family traveled often and lived overseas in Germany. The Family returned to his mother's hometown of San Antonio in 1969 and Steve's love of music was born. As a little boy, Steve recalled nightly performances by his Grandparents Stapleton. Steve would sit with his Grandad Faye as he played the piano listening to his Grandmother Louise sing. They didn't just perform for him-they taught him how to play and read music, planting seeds that would blossom into a lifelong passion.
In high school Steve played football and ran track, but the one sport that he fell in love with was golf. He was active in the marching band, playing trombone and becoming the drum major his senior year. With his brother Greg, he started his first band during highschool, the Night Riders. Steve graduated from South Side High School at 16 years old and set his sights on obtaining a degree from Stephen F. Austin.
After college, he played piano and sang in various bands, covering a wide range of genres including Spanish, English, and Elvis impersonations; yes, outfit and all. In the 1980s, he toured with bands such as Little River Band and Huey Lewis and The News. In the late 80's, Steve worked at Best Products, where he met Sandra and became a father to his son Ruben. Steve then began to master his golf game, playing courses around San Antonio and going to the driving range religiously. Soon after he started his last corporate job at Keebler and had his daughter Krisa in 1991.
After moving to Houston as a Keebler branch manager, he traveled extensively before returning to San Antonio to start his own business, the SSB Group, in 1995. A man of many talents and passions, Steve built a remarkable career as a Safety Environmental Engineer. He began consulting, expanded into manufacturing, and secured major contracts for his growing business. Never one to settle, he also carved out a path as a respected entrepreneur, always dreaming big and pushing boundaries.
In the early 2000's Steve continued to keep his lifelong love of music close. Steve was a gifted keyboard musician and singer, playing in the band's Blind Side and Southern Cross. His talents didn't stop there, he pursued his dream of becoming a PGA professional known not only for his skill on the course but for the camaraderie and kindness he shared with fellow players and friends.
In 2008, Steve met Amber, the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life with their youngest son, Avery. A husband of 16 years, a proud and present dad, and an adoring "Grandpa Steve" to Serenity and Xiomara-Steve's family was his pride, joy, and greatest calling.
He is survived by his wife Amber; his children Ruben (and fiancée Emma), Krisa (and husband Malick), and Avery; his grandchildren Serenity and Xiomara; his mother Esther Grindle and her husband William; his brother Greg (and wife Jane); his favorite sister Allison Alexander (and husband Greg, and daughter Olivia); his mother-in-law Anne Adams; his beloved Boston Terriers, Winchester and Poppy Evangeline; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who became family over the years.
Above all, Steve's life was rooted in his love for Jesus Christ. His faith shaped every decision, every act of kindness, every conversation filled with wisdom and wit. Whether he was enjoying a great meal, sharing life advice, or cracking a perfectly timed joke, Steve brought warmth, light, and laughter into every room.
Steve's legacy is one of unwavering faith, endless curiosity, and a love that lives on in all who knew him. His presence will be missed more than words can ever capture, but the mark he made on our hearts will never fade.
