Steven Boyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sommerville Funeral Services - Akron on Oct. 8, 2025.

Steven Wayne Boyer, was born on Friday, October 14, 1960, to Cary Boyer Jr. and Estelle Boyer (Lytle), he was the 7th of 8 siblings and the 5th of 6 brothers. On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Steven received a call at 820 Mercer Avenue, for an appointment he couldn't refuse. This appointment came with a huge sign on bonus, a reunion in Heaven with Dad, Mom and Kerry.

Steven attended Akron Public School and when he started kindergarten, he couldn't quite pronounce his name and it sounded like TB, which later became Stevie. He studied Auto Body at Buchtel High School and became intrigued with detailing cars, that he could clean a car up inside and out, with just a bucket and a rag. He was later dubbed, "Blaster."
After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Korea, receiving an honorable discharge. Stevie's happiest times was with family gatherings, where we went to Idora Park, Myers Lake, The Blue Hole and Chippewa Lake for Firestone Tire Company Picnics. He truly loved his Family.

Now with 6 brothers, came this one particular time, Bruce and Stevie were fussing over a shirt, now mind you, they all were about the same size and shirts were mostly Polo stripe and Wrangler blue jeans. So, the rest of us got quiet, so we could hear if Momma was creeping up the steps, because if she HAD to come upstairs, it wasn't going to be pretty. We could fuss, but we better not fight. Plus, we're ALL senior citizens now!

It was a pleasure to catch all 6 of them together. On any given day, you could ride by Mercer Avenue and catch Stevie, sitting in that chair, chilling with Bruce, or just watching the neighborhood. Throwing his hand up to wave or holler "Hey."

Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, Cary and Estelle; brother, Kerry E.; grandparents, aunts and uncles, niece and nephews.

Stevie is survived by his daughter, Felisha Gillespie; granddaughter, Shaquarra Gillespie; grandsons, Demetrius and Marcellus Travis and 5 Great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Boyer-Cornelius, Marilyn (Jimmie)Boyer-Wilder; brothers, Michael J. Boyer, Brian (Mariesa) Boyer, Bruce Boyer, and Stanley (Diana) Boyer; aunts, Avie L. Boyer and Mary F. Lytle and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Special thanks to our brother BRUCE ALAN BOYER, for being his BROTHERS KEEPER.
NOW, it comes with heavy hearts that we must lay our beloved "Stevie" to rest and to Thank each and everyone who knew and loved. Him, from the very bottom of our hearts…thank you, thank you, thank you.
