Steven DeWain Brooks, age 65, of Litchfield, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Jackson. He was born on August 4, 1959, in Hillsdale to Addison and Deanna (Rice) Brooks. He married Dawn Koons on July 30, 1983, and she survives.
Steven graduated from Litchfield High School class of 1977 and went on to graduate from MSU's College of Agriculture to continue the legacy of his family farm, D.A.D.S. Farm. He dedicated his life to farming and the world of agriculture, participating in 4-H through his childhood with his siblings at the Hillsdale County Fair. When he got married, he moved to the home he grew up in and spent every day to better the farm. He also enjoyed tinkering on anything mechanical, watching TV shows about cars, being a handyman, and spending time with his family. Steven was known for his goofy personality and dry sense of humor. He was proud of his work and his equipment; he even participated in the Mackinac Bridge Tractor Crossing with his father. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by many.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Dawn Brooks; his parents, Addison and Deanna Brooks; three children, Danielle (Casey) Varino, Justin (Miranda Taylor) Brooks, and Branden Brooks; two siblings, Debra Brooks and Douglas (Leah) Brooks; 11 grandchildren, Adalynn, Silas, Stetson, Kannon, Riley, Ember, Brice, Nikiah, Morgan, Kyleigh, and Braylynn; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his grandma and grandpa Brooks; grandma and grandpa Rice; Uncle Orman and Aunt Venny.
Funeral services for Steven Brooks will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home George White Chapel in Litchfield. Family will receive friends for visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hillsdale County Fair.
