RIP to my friend of 52 years!
John Curley
January 31, 2020
Steve and I were friends for 52 years. 52! We did so many things together growing up along with Brian. Little League, Boy Scouts, Interact, college to name a few. We sat together at our 30th & 40th high school reunions. In fact, a few days before the last one, Steve texted me and asked me how he should dress for it. I was stunned he would ask me, a guy who rarely makes it to the mall unless I have a fistful of Christmas gift cards. Steve had such great fashion sense that would have impressed icons like Ralph Lauren!
Another aspect of Steve that was fascinating is at a young age, he had such a business sense and entrepreneurial spirit and it continued throughout his life. I first experienced it at summer camp on Catalina Island. Steve was selling refurbished transistor radios that work for about 2 days. He made a mint! Must have gotten this gift from his dad, he was spitting image of him!
Things were not always BFF with Steve and I all 52 years. For whatever reasons, our friendship had some peeks and valleys. But when we decided to climb the pinnacle and meet at the top, we would just pick up where we left off. It was all good all over again. Steve, I will miss you dearly and Im sorry Im not here today, but I know one day we be back at our friendship pinnacle.
I would like to close by paraphrasing a line from a sing we both loved:
Steven, I miss young more than all the others!
And I salute you brother!
