Steve Carlstrom, 74, known to many as “Snowtop,” passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born to Carl and Frances Carlstrom on June 02, 1951. Steve grew up and graduated from Polk Public High School in May 1969. He went into the Army on Sept 23, 1969, and served in Vietnam. Steve was discharged on April 6, 1971. Steve returned to Nebraska making his home in Sutherland. He built a career in laying carpet for Select Abby in North Platte. Steve met Julie Welsh while living in Sutherland and they were married on May 25, 2013, and moved to Paxton, NE to make their home. Steve enjoyed laying carpet for more than 45 years before retiring!
He was a lifelong lover of the outdoors, enjoying camping and fishing. He loved watching football, and especially Nebraska Volleyball and cherished spending time with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Carlstrom; of Paxton NE; his five brothers; Dennis, (Kathie) Carlstrom of Polk, NE; Kenneth, (Marcia) Carlstrom of Polk NE; Thomas, (Teri) Carlstrom of Winnetoon, NE; and William, (Venida) of Benedict NE; Roger of Polk, NE. One sister, Becky Carlstrom, of Polk NE. Three Stepdaughters; Elery, and (Andy) Hoban from Nixa, MO; Nicole, (Logan) Grafford of Paxton NE; Danyelle Welsh, and Richard Norton; of North Platte, NE; Two grandsons; Teghan Osborne, of Lincoln, NE; Mayson Dancer of North Platte and one granddaughter; Brooklynn Norton of North Platte, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carol Wall.
Steve will be remembered for his love of life, his adventures in nature, and the joy he shared with those around him.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the United Methodist Church of Paxton Nebraska at 11:00 a.m. Mountain time with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating. Inurnment will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, in Maxwell Nebraska, at 2:00 P.M. central time. Military honors will be provided by Miller Hankins Legion Post 303 of Paxton, NE.
