Steven Kent Carter, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Alamosa, Colorado on June 18, 1943, to Edward and Gaytha Carter. Steve graduated from high school in San Luis, Colorado. He met his beloved wife, Susan, and together, they shared sixty wonderful years of marriage. Early in, in 1975, they chose to settle down in Bloomfield, raising cows, goats, ducks, geese, dogs, and cats. Steve chose truck driving as his lifetime career and he loved it. He continued to do so for his entire life as a heavy-haul truck driver for Steere Tank Lines, Plateau, Giant, Atchison and eventually retiring from Four-Four Pipeline. Steve enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing in his free time with his family. Spending time with his wife, son, daughter, and all his grandchildren at Navajo Lake fishing for crappie and cat fishing up the Pine River with his best friend were memories that will never be forgotten. Steve was an avid storyteller and had a special way of sharing his life experiences with all who were in his presence, especially when barbecuing and having a cold beer.

Steve is survived by his wife, Susan Carter, son, Steven C. Carter, daughter, Rebecca (Carter) Runyon, grandchildren Brianna, Chelsey, Celeste, Damon, Alyssea, Skylar, and Rhea, his brother, Kelly Carter (Ellie), sisters Patricia Thompson (Larry), Ellie DeHerrera (Jim), Kristine Creery (Tom), Melissa Christensen (Kim), sister-in-law Lorra Holmes (Butch), brother-in-law George Carey, many nieces and nephews, and his friend Linn Missey.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Edward Carter, and mother, Gaytha Carter.

No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
