Steven Craig Starling, 49, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 16, 1976, to the late James Luther and Jean Brookshire Starling. Steven worked for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department for nearly 18 years. He attended Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church and Clear Vision Church. Steven enjoyed watching NASCAR and fishing with his daughter and family. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was one who never met a stranger. Steven had a servant’s heart and was always lending a helping hand to others whether it was fixing their car, lawnmower or home repairs. He was a man of all trades. Steven completed the Detention Officer Certification “jail school” at Forsyth Tech as well as the automotive/mechanic certification. He was a loving husband and father. Surviving is his wife, Nicole Starling; daughter, Mackenzie Starling; sister, Stephanie Starling (Jeff Griffin); brother, Keith Starling (Beth); two aunts, Judy Edwards and Kaye Brookshire; three nephews, Chase Edwards (Alex), Dylan Edwards (Destiny), and Weston Edwards (fiancé, Jennings); mother-in-law, Lori Pendry (Russell).
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Mary Miller and Pastor Rodney Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made via a check payable to: Mackenzie Starling Education Fund C/O Nicole Starling, mailed to home address or to the Derrick L. Davis Regional Cancer Center, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. (Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is assisting the Starling family.)
