Steven was welcomed to the family on February 4, 2000. He left for Heaven on Thursday, April 17, 2025, to join his late grandfathers, Don Riddle and Gene Dornquast, and his great-grandmother, Rose Olson.
Steven was a music lover and avid gamer, and played baseball on the Columbus, Indiana, Babe Ruth League. Steven was a confirmed member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and enjoyed being part of Christmas programs. He was in Showchoir and played for the East High School football team, and later filmed football and basketball games with the "Blacksmiths." He was proud of the Cat Condominium that he built with his dad for Senior Project and donated to the local cat rescue, and he enjoyed working on cars with his dad. Steven graduated from East High School in 2018 and was currently employed at BCSC.
His kind and gentle soul was evident to all who knew him, and his heart was burdened for friends who hadn't accepted Jesus Christ.
After a quiet and courageous battle with depression and severe pain, Steven's life became unbearable.
Martin Luther said, "The darkness that overwhelms people to take their own lives is not bigger than God's love and grace." Romans 8:31-39 states, "Nothing can separate us from the love of God." Steven is now enveloped in Jesus' love, where he is safe and out of pain.
Steven is survived by his parents, Chad and Jayne Dornquast; brother and best friend, Scott Dornquast; grandparents, Ruth Riddle, Vicki (Jim) Boyd, Pam (Jim) Roth; uncle Geoff (Sue) Riddle, and cousins Adam (Katie) Dragt and Alex Dragt.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Abrams officiating the service. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, beginning at 12:00. Steven will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing please consider donating, through the funeral home, to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
*If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call or text 988.*
