Steven Charles Garcia

Steven Charles Garcia, age 68, of Hilo, Hawai'i passed away on October 21, 2025, at his residence in Hilo. He was born in Boulder, Colorado to Charles and Rebecca Garcia, on April 27, 1957. Steve spent his working years as a chef at Hale Pohaku for the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai'i. Steve was known for his huge heart, his loving devotion as his parents' primary caregiver, his generosity, and the ability to whip up incredible meals in minutes. Steve was fit and active his entire life; he began surfing as a teenager, and later became an avid mountain biker, stand-up paddler, hiker and pickleball player. Steve is survived by his wife Duan Garcia, and stepson Nattapat Sangnet of Hilo; daughter Krisy (Brandon) Bajo and grandson Gunner; and son Cameron Garcia, all of Hilo. He is also survived by sisters, Carla (Scott) Chitwood of Mesquite, Nevada; Pamela (John) Homa of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and brother Thomas Garcia of Las Vegas, Nevada; three nephews, one niece and numerous cousins. We must also include Mike and Joy Gillette who were a brother and sister to him in this life for over 30 years. Words cannot describe how much he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
