I had the great fortune of meeting Steve at the 1976 Olympic Trials. We both made that O team. From that time forward, we were friends, National Teams together. Steve was the guy that was so positive and such a professional approach in everthing...His humor was outstanding, his stories the best, his love of LIFE...ENORMOUS, his love for Jennifer to the moon and beyond. We will miss him greatly...Rest now Steve, in Eternal Peace.

Steve was my brother-in-law. I always enjoyed his company, was in awe of his athletic achievements, and thought a great deal of him. What I found most impressive was his dedication to the mission of his nonprofit organization that advocated for adults suffering incontinence. Steve put his best in everything he did, and that means something. We will miss you, Steve! Our sincere condolences, Jennifer.

I was the graduate student at the University of Arizona when I first met Steve in 1977. We were studying exercise physiology, and Steve cut such an impressive figure that I almost suggested he try swimming. He was modest and humble, and only then I learned he was a silver medalist just a year before. He taught me about the physiology of Swimming and has to my knowledge the highest value for cardiac output ever published in a scientific journal. I am saddened to hear of your loss, Steve was a kind gentleman, a scholar and an inspiration for me.

Mrs. Gregg, I'm so sorry for your loss. Steve always spoke so highly of you and your work. I am grateful for his friendship and partnerships over the years. I had just texted with him a few weeks prior and somehow didn't realize the gravity of his current situation. I think very highly of him as a person and a professional - I'll certainly miss him. It's shocking to me to realize that the last time I saw him at AUA was the last time I would see him. My heart goes out to you and the rest of your family - thanks for sharing him with us.

Steve was a funny, and supportive colleague at Cal. We worked together in room 63 for many hours between training and surgeries. Steve was always generous with his time to tutor a rookie swimmer. He was a good man.

My deepest condolences to Steve´s wife and family. His passing is a great shock. Steve worked at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute when I was the director and we spent many years working, traveling, and swimming Masters practices together. Steve was a gentleman and a scholar. Rest in peace, my friend.

Steve was a humble guy, my class mates had no idea how gifted he was in swimming until we saw him win the silver medal! I had a nice conversation with him last year and he was so proud of his not for profit organization
