Steven Laurence Griffing

STEVEN LAURENCE GRIFFING of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2025. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
Steven was born in Canberra, Australia, A.C.T., in 1956. His family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1964. Steven graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1979 with a major in mathematics. He moved to Los Angeles, California in 1980 where he received a State of California teaching certificate for secondary education in mathematics in 1984. He moved back to Columbus, Ohio in 1991, where he lived the rest of his life.
Steven actively pursued his passions of writing and drawing. He published several books of poetry and philosophy as well as work on the mathematical concept of the Golden Section. Another passion was drawing with colored pencils. His latest book of drawings was published in 2024. Steven's other interests included gardening and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Steven enjoyed close relationships with all three of his sisters.
He is survived by his three sisters and their spouses, Cindy (Griffing) O'Brien and Joe O'Brien, Joan Griffing Nicholas and Leslie Nicholas, and Debbie Griffing Heller and Pug Heller. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews: Luke O'Brien, Gina (O'Brien) Orzelski, Desi (O'Brien) Graeser, Breton Nicholas, Zoe Heller, and Ava Heller; and five great-nieces and great-nephews: Pippi, Joey, Gigi, and John Paul Graeser, as well as Lilli Orzelski.
A memorial service and celebration of Steven's life will take place at First Community Village - Burkhart Center, 1800 Riverside Drive, Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, June 14 at 2:00 pm.
