It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven "Steve" Hatch, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Steve passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 77, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois Steve was born on July 11, 1948, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Harold and Betty (Battles) Hatch. On June 6, 1976, he married the love of his life, Laura Broom and she survives him. His warmth and humor touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, located at 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois, 62801, (618)532-3523. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Six Lemons and/or the Centralia Junior High Sports Program and will be accepted at the funeral home, who is honored to be of service to Steve's family. Steve's family would like to thank SSM Health St. Mary Hospital in Centralia, SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, and the Cancer Center of Centralia and O'Fallon for the wonderful care they gave. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Laura "Snookie" Hatch of Centralia, with whom he shared countless memories. His son, Joe Hatch, also of Centralia, carries forward Steve's legacy of kindness and integrity. Steve's spirit lives on in his three adored grandchildren: Jordan Starr of Edwardsville, Dylan Starr and wife Taylor of Mt. Vernon, and Blaine Litton and Emma Henry of Mt. Vernon, as well as his two great-grandchildren: Rylen and Walker. He is also survived by his sister: Sharon Mannino of Centralia; brother-in-law: Peter Broom of Salem; sister-in-law: Jennifer Williams and husband Wayne of Baytown, Texas; and many beloved nieces and nephews: Kyle Mannino of Centralia, Wade Mannino of Irvington, Sarah Schelski of Texas, Justin Williams of Louisiana, Patrick Williams of Louisiana, Bobby Bockhorn of Oklahoma, Emily Arnold of Oklahoma, and Laura Bockhorn. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Betty Hatch; his daughter, Angela "Angie" E. Litton; his father and mother-in-law, Russell and Doris Broom, as well as his sister-in-law, Melissa "Missy" Bockhorn, and his four legged companion: Macey. A dedicated educator, Steve held a Master's Degree in Education and shared his passion for learning as a Physical Education teacher, coach, and athletic director at Centralia Junior High School for more than 25 years. His commitment to his students and athletes was a cornerstone of his professional life and earned him widespread respect and admiration. Steve's interests included enjoying dinners with his wife, playing golf, watching Christmas movies, and indulging in episodes of The Big Bang Theory. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was ever devoted to his four-legged friends, Nilly and Waffles.
