Steven Allan Havener, aged 72, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Niles, Michigan, on February 22, 2025. Born on October 3, 1952, to his late parents Ernest Havener and Alma Fisher, Steve's story was one of devotion, to his family, his work, and his many passions.
A proud graduate of Niles High School, Steve's professional life was largely dedicated to his years of service at Simplicity Pattern, where his unwavering diligence and straight-forward attitude were as fabric to the tight-knit community it weaved. He was known for his unique character and his firm yet endearing disposition, traits cherished by colleagues and friends alike.
Steve's personal life was rich and full, reflecting the heart of a man who was as passionate about his interests as he was about his love for family. Married to his beloved wife Julie, Steven was a loving father to Joshua Smith; Jessica and her husband Charles Nelson; Adam and his wife Tonya Poznanski; Johnas Poznanski; Sarah and her husband Connor Randlett; the late Benjamin Poznanski; Sarah Hayslip; Stephen and his wife Christina Hayslip; and Serena (Alex) Hayslip. His sister Sheila Havener, brothers Michael and Carol Fisher, Ernie and Diana Havener, Frank (Patty) Havener, Ronald Havener, Bill Meckenzie, and sister Beverly Meckenzie will remember Steve's unwavering presence in their lives.
Apart from being a beacon of reliability in his work, Steve found solace and joy in his hobbies. A triumphant participant in sobriety for 37 years, he collected an envy-worthy array of baseball, football, NASCAR cards, and comic books. His love of sports ran deep, especially for the Chicago Bears, Notre Dame, and women's basketball. Steve loved love itself, and his life was a testament to that powerful simplicity. He spent countless cherished hours fishing, visiting casinos, and immersed in the melodies of The Beatles.
Services for Steve will be held on March 7, 2025. A visitation hour will be held from 10:00am till 11:00am, with a service immediately following at 11:00am all at Brown Funeral Home.
Memorial donations in Steve's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
Steve's life was a colorful mosaic, set against the canvas of everyday joys and the profound love he shared. He once quoted, "Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to go today." Indeed, Steve relished every day he had on Earth and made the most of his journey until his last. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, leaving behind memories etched with admiration and affection.
