Steven Michael "Steve" Hooker

1952 - 2025

Steven Michael Hooker, 73, Monticello, passed Dec. 9, 2025, at 10:50 p.m. in Lebanon.

He was born Feb. 15, 1952, to the late Lamoine and Emogene "Jean" Hooker in Winamac. Steve graduated in 1970 from West Central High School. In 1971, living in Monon, he married Terrie (Spear), with whom he had a son, and later divorced.

In 1975 Steve graduated from Nashville Auto-Diesel College in Nashville, Tenn., afterwards, he returned to Monon, and worked for many years at Case in Rensselaer. When Steve left Monon, he lived on his farm in Winamac, and worked for many years at McGill's in Monticello. Later, living in Monticello, in 2003, he married Robin (Whitaker) with her children, Amy, Matt, Abby and grandchildren, Dakota, Cheyenne, and Scout, and later divorced.

After Steve left McGill's, he went into business for himself, including Rent-1 and Rangeline Overhead Doors. After selling Rent-1, he worked various government contracts before he sold his farm and retired in 2016. Steve loved driving tractors/farming with his dad and enjoyed working on diesel engines, drinking cold beer with his friends, and listening to country music, but his passion was GTO's. He had several GTOs over the years, to name a few: 1965 midnight blue GTO, 1969 green GTO, 1973 burgundy GTO, and a 1965 black GTO.

Nothing made Steve laugh more than watching his grandkids run around and play. He gave great hugs and loved to rough up his grandkids' hair.

Special thanks to the nursing staff in The Bridge, Lebanon, especially Cathy and DJ, for their patience with Steve as he was taken over with dementia.

Steve is survived by his son, Wyatt (Sonia) Hooker, West Lafayette; his granddaughters, Cora and Ella Hooker; his sisters, Lori (Dewayne) Skalon, Francesville, and Anita (Brandon) Burns, Zionsville; sister-in-law, Nancy Hooker; nieces, Nikki, Brandy, Kylie, Macyn and Kendell; and nephews, Cody and Thomas.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Lamoine and Jean, and brother, Larry.

Visitation will be on Sunday Dec. 21 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, West Lafayette Chapel. Friends and family are welcome from 1 – 4 p.m. with a brief eulogy at the beginning.
