Steven George Hunter, son of Richard and Kathryn (Wailes) Hunter was born February 6, 1971 in Carroll, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Bayard, Iowa on February 7, 2024 at the age of 53 years. Steven grew up in Scranton, Iowa and graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School in 1989. He then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He then began farming and working for Hunter Farms.
On February 21, 1998, Steven was united in marriage to Stephanie Ottoson at the Bayard Church of Christ in Bayard, Iowa. They were the proud parents of three children: Alexis, Ashley, and Jacob.
Steven loved to spend time with his family in Okoboji boating and going to concerts at the lake. He enjoyed playing the guitar and he liked to golf along with many other hobbies. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Lyla Rose and his children: Alexis, Ashley, and Jacob. He was always the life of the party and had a contagious smile. He loved farming with his family and knew how to fix anything. To know him was to love him.
Steven is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Jackie Ottoson; his grandparents, George and Mildred Hunter; his grandmother, Margaret Wailes McDonald; and his brother-in-law, Larry Dunbar. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Hunter of Bayard, IA; his children: Alexis Hunter (Tyler) of Scranton, IA, Ashley Hunter (Gavin) of Bagley, IA, and Jacob Hunter (Bailey) of Scranton, IA; his granddaughter, Lyla Rose; his parents, Richard and Kathryn Hunter of Scranton, IA; his brothers, Brian Hunter (Jo) of Scranton, IA, and Scott Hunter (Heidi) of Scranton, IA; his father-in-law, Keith Ottoson of Des Moines, IA; his brother-in-law, Scott Ottoson of North Liberty, IA; his sisters-in-law: Lisa Leckliter (Seth) of Solon, IA, Melissa Johnson (Aaron) of Cambridge, IA, and Jenna Specht (Phil) of Stuart, IA; Nieces; Nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 12, 2024 at the Scranton Community Center in Scranton, IA. A private family interment will take place at Willow Township Cemetery, Scranton, IA. The family will be present to greet friends on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson, IA. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Bayard Church of Christ in Bayard, IA.
