Steven Thomas Johnson, 67, of Tifton, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Born on February 15, 1958, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Steven was the son of the late Gerald B. Johnson and Mary Ross Johnson deMange. He was raised in Manassas, Virginia, and after graduating from high school, he attended college before moving to Tifton in 1979. From that point forward, Tifton became his home.
A skilled mechanic by trade, Steven worked for both Tifton Aluminum and the Target Distribution Center for many years. However, his true passion lay in restoring Land Rovers-his natural talent and deep enthusiasm for those iconic vehicles made his work stand out.
Steven was a man of many interests- he enjoyed listening to 1970s rock music, exploring Civil War history, trail riding, and reading his Bible.
Survivors include his son- Christopher Cody Johnson (Mandi), grandchildren- Raelyn Fillyaw, Autumn Johnson, Owen Ware, Asher Catrett, niece- Jessica P. Humphries (BJ), great niece- Kaydance Humphries, and aunt- Tommie Jean Young.
In addition to his parents- he was also preceded in death by his stepfather- known as "Pops", Paul H. deMange and a brother- Anthony "Tony" Ross Johnson.

David and I have so many memories of Steve. David met Steve in 1994 at the Haug Rally. They were friend forever after that! I met Steve in 1996 and my favorite thing about him through all the years was his love for his son Cody. Cody was always at the events and we always had so much fun with them. He will be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have known him.

Steve Johnson was a pillar in the Land Rover community for decades and was bigger than life at the Rover events with very skilled off road driving. He was always willing to take on the risk of fording a stream, literally climbing a slippery slope; all with successive outcomes that made him a remarkable driver, trail ride leader, and exciting to be around, party goer. Steve understood the mechanics, electrics, and fueling of land Rovers and was always willing to help with anyone's emergency field repairs. I could always tell we were good friends because his usual greeting was: "Robert I don't know how anyone could be as ugly as you are". My reply was usually "lets have a beer and share some stories". RIP, Steve, the world has lost a good one, a very good one indeed!
