Steven Lamb Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel on Feb. 13, 2026.
Steven William Lamb, 68, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, peacefully left this earth on February 11, 2026, to be with The Father in the Kingdom of Heaven after a courageous battle with a respiratory illness.

Born on February 25, 1957, in Fredericktown, Ohio to parents Russell and Viola Lamb, Steve grew up in a household with three brothers. An avid sports fan, he was always outdoors and almost always seen on the nearest ballfield as a child. He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1975 where he played football and baseball for the 'Freddies.' Steve continued to live in Knox County ever since.

A dedicated and dependable worker throughout his life no matter the occupation, Steve managed his escape to retirement from his job at Kroger in furtherance of his favorite hobbies. A pillar of the community, Steve was known around the town for his umpiring baseball and softball at nearly every level from youth leagues to high school. He had a knack for his remembrance of so many of the teams, coaches, and players he encountered in some 30+ years of officiating.

In fact, Steve made it a point to know everyone he met. And he remembered them all. There likely wasn't a single waiter or waitress in town he didn't know by name and was universally known to be one of the friendliest patrons of any establishment he frequented. People were commonly taken back by his kindhearted personality and his eagerness to which he treated each conversation. Every pleasantry was an opportunity to make a new friend.

Among many pursuits he cherished, Steve bred and raised Netherland Dwarf rabbits, often placing them for competition at shows nationwide. He was a talented artist, having painted many original watercolor paintings, with a focus on landscapes inspired by the late great, Bob Ross. He loved his rabbits, he loved his Ohio State Buckeyes, and most of all, he loved his family and his 6-year-old granddaughter, Koby, for with spending time became his most cherished activity.

Steve is survived by: his children, Kyle, 45, now of Tallahassee, Florida, Bethany, 42, now of Bryan, Ohio, and his youngest son Jeremy, 40; his brother Jerry and sister-in-law Sharon; his brother Keven and sister-in-law Karma; his sister-in-law Marilyn; a total of eight nephews and five nieces; his former wife of over 25 years, friend, and mother to his children, Peggy; and his closest friends Ira and Nancy Mowery.

Preceding him into eternal life were his parents and his eldest brother, Mike.

For those wishing to memorialize his life, please join us for calling hours at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel at 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, on Monday, February 16, between 4-7 pm.
