Steven Doyle Leff, 70, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, passed away on January 20, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born July 30, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to Ruth and Doyle Leff. Steve was a 1970 graduate of Harrison High School in Colorado Springs, CO where he earned a college scholarship for wrestling. Instead, he chose to enter the trades and built a respectable career as a skilled carpenter. His life in construction led him to form many meaningful, long-standing friendships. At one point in his life, the guys even gave him an affectionate nickname, Catfish.
Steve married Donna, the love of his life, in 1990. They built a life together in places such as Colorado, California, and Louisiana, but the Arizona desert held their heart and is where they have spent the majority of their lives together. Steve loved Donna's homemade cooking and never passed up a big bowl of gumbo. But, not even the gumbo could surpass his love of ice cream.
Steve was an outdoorsman since childhood. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. His favorite days were spent fishing on his boat, with an ice-cold Coors in his hand. There was no such thing as a bad day at the lake. Steve was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan, watching all games to the end, even the bad ones. Steve loved to watch old western movies and listen to country music.
Anyone that knew Steve well, knew that he was a little bit ornery, a little bit hard headed, but most importantly, he had a heart of gold. His love for his family and friends ran deep. For family that didn't live near him, he was known to track the daily weather in your part of the country. It was his way of checking in on everyone. His weather reports will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Leff, his daughters; Tamara Johnson and Jennifer Leff, both of Colorado Springs CO, Tammy Martinez of Marana, AZ, and Kristina Roach of Tehachapi, CA, his grandchildren; Devin, Ethan, Michael, Kayla, and Alana, as well as his sisters; Terry, Diane, and Stacy, and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the COPD Foundation at copdfoundation.org in his memory. A celebration of life will be held in the coming months for close friends and family.
