Steven Hamilton Messick, born May 27, 1954 in Burlington, NC,  passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2024. At the young age of 69 years old, Steven went to heaven after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Though gone too soon, he beat the odds in true character.

A member of the Alamance Bar Association, Steven led an impressive career. With 40 years under his belt as a practicing attorney he eventually retired as a respected North Carolina District Court Judge (District 15A).

An avid runner, bicyclist, and artist, he also enjoyed boating and any opportunity to spend time with family.  Steven made an impact on the lives of many in the community, and will forever be cherished and remembered as an amazing son, father, husband, best friend and mentor.

Steven is survived by his wife of 15 years, Victoria Messick; his children Zachary Messick (Grace), Jordan Messick (Bailey), Morgan Messick, Courtney Wanner (Jamie) and stepson, Joshua Bell; his grandchildren, Novella Carpenter, Harper Wanner, Weller Messick, Hawkins Wanner, Odin Messick, and Mirra Messick; his siblings T. Paul Messick Jr. (Christina) and sister Leslie Messick (Paul Baumbach).  He was preceded by his parent’s, T. Paul Messick Sr. and Betty Hamilton Messick; and his dog, "Scooby Doodle" Messick.

A service to celebrate Steven's life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 15, 2024 at St. Mark’s Community Church. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:45 am and the burial at Springwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery will immediately follow the celebration. Steven will be available for viewing from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday January 14, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, by mail to P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741, or online at https://www.michaeljfox.org.
