Steven Winston Mitchell

Steven Mitchell, 77, of Rockford passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025. Born April 1, 1948 in Rockford the son of Bud and Evelyn (Jacobson) Mitchell. Steven worked for Greenlee Brothers and Rockford Memorial Hospital in their shipping and receiving departments. He was a quiet, unassuming man and a good friend to everyone and was most at peace hiking in the great outdoors. He was a fan of most music genres but especially Country and Rock n Roll. Steve enjoyed watching Chicago sports and cheering on the Chicago Bears, Bulls, Cubs, and Blackhawks. He was an excellent semi-professional photographer which enabled him to meet many famous people, including his friend Emmy Lou Harris.

Steve is survived by his sister, Karen Hanaver; nephew, Curtis (Kathryn) Oliver; niece, Michelle (Jeff) Casselberry; grandnieces and grandnephew, Elizabeth Oliver, Meghan (Kevin) Cluck and Jason Oliver; and great-grandnephew, Liam Neath. Steven was predeceased by his parents; and brother-in-law, Ronald Hanaver.
