Steven A. More, 78, of Columbia City, Indiana passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Born May 28, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana he was a son of the late Harold "Gene" and Margie (Flaugh) More.
He graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1965 and Michigan State with the Class of 1967. After college Steve married Jill Basalyga, who passed away in 1997. After Jill's passing Steve married Gloria Hertsel-Chapman of Whitley County.
For six years Steve was in the U.S. Army Reserves in finance. He was also a third-generation owner/partner of More Farm Store. For eight years he was a member of the Kubota Dealer Advisory Board and was the president for one year. Steve was involved in the Thorncreek Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He was a member of First Church of God in Columbia City, Indiana and held many positions including president of the National Board of Pensions at First Church of God in Findley, Ohio. He also co-founded Stepping Stones Daycare at First Church of God. Additionally Steve was on the steering committee on the Youth For Christ when it was founded in Whitley County Schools.
Steve greatly enjoyed fishing with his buddies and riding his Harley. Steve and Gloria enjoyed traveling throughout the world together on many adventures.
Steven is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, Bryan (Susan) More, Andy (Toni) More; daughter, Stephanie (Clifford) Francois; step-son, Jeffrey (Christina) Chapman, step-daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Bergdall; grandchildren, Joey, Olivia, Erin, Aiden, Claire, Margot, Benji, Lexy, Reed, Abby, and Bailey; sister-in-law, Marj More; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents and first wife, Steve is preceded in death by his brother, Leon More; and his beloved dogs/fishing buddies, Flash, Sage and Harley.
Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, August 23, 2024, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, August 24, 2024, also at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given in memory of Steve to The Steve and Gloria More Fund, Whitley County Community Foundation, 1171 E.
