Steven Lee Nelson "Stevie" 63, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on February 19, 1960 to Rev. Sim M. Nelson III and Vernell O. Limbra-Nelson
Stevie graduated from North Side High School and studied at Ball State University. He was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, baseball and track with many State and National record titles. Stevie was inducted into the North Side Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Ball State Hall of Fame in 1995. He still holds the BSU record for kickoff return. and is the last BSU football player to return a kick for a TD against Ohio in 1980.
He accepted Christ at young age and was baptized at Greater Progressive Baptist Church in Fort Wayne IN, by Rev. Jessie White and later became an ordained Minister of the gospel. He was the CEO of A Master's Touch Painting. He loved to travel, sing, dance and preach. He had a great sense of humor and an unforgettable laugh. Stevie was a loyal Michigan Wolverine and San Francisco 49er's fan.
Stevie was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Sim M. Nelson III and Vernell O. Limbra-Nelson. Son Sgt. JaBraun Knox, brother Sim Nelson IV and sister Yvette Smith.
Stevie leaves to cherish his loving memory with his children LaTanya Broomer of Clarksville, TN; Keonna Flotow of Fort Wayne, IN; Cody (Kendra) Flotow of Fort Wayne, IN; brothers Johnny Nelson of Fort Wayne, IN; Ricky (Jaqueline) Nelson of Douglasville, GA; Minister Curtis (Tammy) White of Indianapolis, IN; sisters Minister Bernice (Deacon Willie) Jones of Harrison, TN; Regina Moore of Fort Wayne, IN; Sandra (Darrell) Davie of Fort Wayne, IN; Minister Carol (Rev. Jerry) Bolton of Birmingham, AL; 13 lovely Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
Thank you for your kind expressions of sympathy. The love you have shown has given us great comfort at this difficult time. It is deeply appreciated and will forever be remembered by the family of Stevie Nelson. We Love You All!
