Steven A. Ramos, 70, of New Bedford passed away on Saturday January 31, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital from cardiac arrest due to complications from knee surgery.

Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Antone and Theresa (Silva) Ramos.

Steven was formerly employed as a court officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Third District Court for many years until his retirement. Prior to that, he worked as a corrections officer for the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office, starting at the Ash Street Jail in 1981. He also had worked as a longshoreman on the New Bedford waterfront for over 40 years and had been a member of the International Longshoremen’s Union since 1984.

He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, where he played basketball and softball and ran track. He later earned a full scholarship to Northeastern University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and was a star athlete playing the game he loved – basketball.

Steve enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. He was a true New England Patriots fan.

Survivors include his wife Linda; his daughter Lynsey; his sister Susan; his niece Cori; as well as several aunts and an uncle and many cousins.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church on Friday February 6th at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday February 5th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
