Steven “Steve” Robert Freeman, age 52, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 17, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Steve is survived by his wife of 17 years, Katie (Geduldig) Freeman; his two sons: Sam and Aaron; his mother, Joyce (Motter) Freeman; his two siblings: Mike Freeman and wife, Barbara, of New Cumberland and Brian Freeman of Etters; his niece, Aurora Farley-Freeman, and 2 nephews, Donovan Farley-Freeman, and Luca Wech. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Freeman.
Steve was a graduate of Susquenita High School in Duncannon, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Shippensburg University. He was a 25 year employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Department of Corrections and the Office of Administration. Steve was a dedicated and disciplined martial artist. He earned rank in several different disciplines (Freestyle Karate, Hung Gar Kung Fu, and Jung Sim Do). Steve competed and won in local, national, and international tournaments over the years. He took a bronze medal in Full Contact Fighting on the World Stage in Brazil. His lightning kicks and slick defense were his signature. Steve loved being outdoors and enjoyed hiking, attending airshows, traveling, and spending time at the beach. Steve’s greatest pride and joy was his family, especially his sons.
All are welcome to join Steve’s family at his celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 2:30 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral Home & Crematory); with Chaplain Alan Echard officiating. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Casual dress is requested. Cremation was private.
The family sends their most heartfelt thanks to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania who so lovingly cared for Steve during his illness.
