Steven A. Runkles Sr.

Steven A. Runkles, Sr., 64 of Sykesville, MD passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at his home. Born March 31, 1960, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Leon Runkles. He was the loving husband of Sharon Runkles, whom he married September 13, 1980. Steven was a graduate of South Carroll High School class of 1978. He worked as a Welder for the National Institute of Standard Technology for 35 years. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. He enjoyed woodworking, working of vehicles, motorcycles, welding and was a jack of all trades. He loved animals and his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Stephanie Ely & husband Daniel, Steven A. Runkles, Jr. & wife Nikki and Sara Handwerger & husband Josh; grandchildren Olivia Ely, Colton Ely, Rowan Runkles, Rylynn Runkles and Nolan Ely. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert R. Runkles. Sr., his maternal grandparents Raymond & Blanche Maring and mother-in-law Theressa Jane Jones. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at which time the funeral service will begin at 12:00 Noon. The family ask that you dress causal and wear a Harley-Davidson Shirt if you have one. Interment to follow at Prospect Cemetery.
