            Services for Steven R. Smith, age 70, of Sheldon who passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.  His funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon with Pastor Mike Cooper ~ officiating

            Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.

            Visitation with family present will be from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Steven Ray Smith, the son of Gordon and LaVonne (Schroeder) Smith was born on April 10, 1953, in Hartley, Iowa.  He received his education and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1971.  After graduation he began working in construction on was also a truck driver.  He was united in marriage to Angela Kilts in January of 1983.  After their marriage, the couple settled in Sheldon.  Steve passed away at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center reaching the age of 70 years, 4 months, and 6 days.

     Steve enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and driving his grandchildren from place to place.

     Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Angela of Sheldon; children, Dana (Yvonne) Smith, Julie, Stephany, Shane, and Sawyer Smith; fourteen grandchildren, Alisha, Bodhi, Ally, Brandon, Avery, Hannah, Cameron, Augie, Taija, Ray, Karma, Weston, Theodore, and Josie and, one great grandson, River.  He is also survived by his mom, LaVonne Van Essen; sister, Peg (Bob) Jager, and Becky (Jacob) Schwarz; his mother-in-law, Pat Kilts of Sheldon; also, other relatives and friends.

     Steve is preceded in death by his dad, Gordon, son, Bodhi Smith, stepfather, Richard Van Diepen, stepmother, Karen Smith, father-in-law, Von Kilts, and brothers, Dennis in infancy and Ted Smith.
