Steven Smith Obituary

Steven Smith

Born: March 14, 1964 | Died: February 14, 2026

Steven Randall Smith, 61, passed away near Townsend, Tennessee on Feb 14, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1964, in Springfield, Missouri to Larry Eugene and Maureen Sue (Nelson) Smith. Steven grew up in Missouri and Tennessee, a proud graduate of Bearden High School, Knoxville, Class of 1982. He earned his BS in Statistics from the University of Tennessee in 1987. He began his career as a statistician at Shaw Carpet in Dalton, Georgia. In March 2009, he began his career in the nuclear industry at Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant, Crystal River, Florida and continued that career as Director of the In Processing Division for Day and Zimmermann corporate office in Norfolk, Virgina where he recently retired. He approached his work with dedication and professionalism, building many lasting relationships throughout his career.

Away from his work, Steven was an avid outdoorsman and found great joy on the water. While living in Tennessee he enjoyed whitewater rafting; in North Carolina he delighted in boating on the ocean doing competitive king fishing off the coast.

Steven was proceeded in death by his father and wife Mary Liggins Smith. Steven is survived by his sons Matthew Liggins and Dalton Timothy Smith; his sister Gina Pariser; his mother; nieces Ada and Kayla Pariser; and fiancé Claudine Fields.

In recent years, Steven shared his life and home in Oriental, North Carolina with Claudine Fields, where they created a welcoming place filled with love, laughter, friendship, and open doors. Their home became a gathering spot for many guests, especially during parades and community celebrations.

Steven was known as a social person who truly enjoyed the company of others. People were drawn to his warmth, humor, and easy-going spirit. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his passion for the outdoors, and the laughter he shared freely. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will continue to bring comfort to his family and to many others who knew and loved him.

Memorial services will be announced later at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service website. Condolences may be shared at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
