Steven "Steve" Hunter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2024.
Steven "Steve" C Hunter, aged 74, passed away on August 9, 2024, in Graham, NC. Born on May 6, 1950, in Salisbury, NC, he spent his formative years there before embarking on a diverse career spanning several industries.

Steve attended Boyden High School and later earned an associate degree from Rowan Technical College. He took great pride in his career in printing, achieving master printer status at Real Reel, Rowan Business Forms, and TriState Medical Supply. Steve later transitioned into operations at Great Stops, where he revamped the check cashing and laundromat businesses. He continued to excel in operations roles at Holmes Oil and Refuel.

A lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, Steve remained actively involved in church activities for over 60 years. He became an affiliate member at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington after moving to Graham, NC. His deep faith was evident in his commitment to his church communities.

Known for his resonant bass voice, Steve was an enthusiastic singer, a hobby he cherished alongside his interests in history and learning new computer skills. His family and friends fondly remember him as the king of corny jokes and fabulous storyteller. He was his children's, grandchildren's, and great grandchild's biggest cheerleader.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Stefanie Hunter Baker (husband Greg); son, Steven Chad Hunter; grandchildren MacKenzie Hunter, Kirkland Hunter, and Matthew Baker; and great-granddaughter, Brielle Hunter. His brother, James "Jim" Hunter, also survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miriam Stevenson Hunter and Robert Winfield Hunter, Sr., and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Winfield Hunter, Jr., and Charles MacFarland "Mac" Hunter.

A service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at 11:00 AM on August 24, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, North Carolina. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Burlington Music Ministry or Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC in Steve's memory.

My condolences to the family. Steve was a wonderful person. He has been my neighbor for the past couple of years and I will cherish our many conversations.

Steve was a man that could talk. And I mean talk. But, Steve was also a great listener! The conversations we had over the years, on multiple subjects, were wonderful. I will miss his jokes, his laugh, his advise, his stories, and his positivity, his incite, his knowledge. They were all infectious.
Heaven is a better place!

Stefanie, Chad, and family, I´m sorry for the loss of your precious father. Steve with his sense of humor, and wonderful singing voice, are some things we will never forget. I pray for God to provide you with strength and comfort in this time of need.
Much love, Wanda (Dan) Peninger
