Obituary of Steven R. Swiecki
March 11, 1965 – July 25, 2024
Steven Swiecki. Age 59 of Morganton, NC, formerly of Southgate.
Beloved son of Robert and the late Karen. Dear brother of Ronald (Tina) Swiecki. Loving uncle of Ronald Swiecki, Jr.
Steven Swiecki, the first Eagle Scout from Troop 1783, lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and a love for adventure. A 1983 graduate of Southgate Anderson High School, Steve was an honor student in the National Honor Society and an active member of the swim team. His academic journey took him to the University of New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology. During his college years, he researched whale populations at Shoals Marine Laboratory on Appledore Island, ME, worked at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and studied at the University of The Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME.
After college, Steve returned home and worked at S&T Manufacturing in Wyandotte, MI. He also supported his brothers' band, SAGE, with lighting and stage effects. However, his true calling was working with animals. This passion led him to Florida, where he earned his Vet Tech certification. While there he spent time at the Peace River Wildlife Center to care for exotic and rescued animals such as lions, tigers, bears, panthers, and monkeys. He also spent time at the Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary caring for rescued birds such as eagles, owls, hawks, and pelicans. Additionally, he spent time at Mote Aquarium in Sarasota, and the Surgi-Care Center for Horses in Brandon.
Steve's journey then brought him to Morganton, North Carolina, where he continued his work with animals. He worked at Medicine Man Veterinary Hospital, Banfield Pet Hospital, UNIFOR in Hickory, the Vet Referral Hospital of Hickory, and finally, the Carolina Animal Specialty & Emergency Hospital in Hickory, where he spent the last 13 years of his career.
In addition to his veterinary work, Steve served with FEMA during hurricanes, providing care for displaced animals and search dogs. His special knack for connecting with troubled animals was truly remarkable and will be greatly missed.
Steven Swiecki's life was a testament to his deep compassion and unwavering commitment to animal welfare. His legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing him.
