Steven Winfield Towles, a loving father, grandfather, and brother, passed away at his home in Charleston, SC, on September 1, 2025, at the age of 73.

Born in Charleston, Steve was the son of the late James and Mildred Towles. A lifelong craftsman, Steve was a dedicated boilermaker whose trade took him around the globe and fed his passion for working with his hands. After he retired, his passion for craftsmanship continued through his favorite hobby: the meticulous restoration of vintage knives.

He was a lover of the outdoors and found great joy in hunting, but he also loved exploring the imagined worlds of science fiction movies.

Those who knew Steve will remember him for his generous spirit, keen sense of humor, and his direct and honest view of current events. His presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, his two grandsons, and his brother.

A private service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being handled by James A. McAlister Funeral Home.
