It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Steven William Wildman at the age of 68, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 31, 2023. Steve's journey began in Burk's Falls, Ontario, Canada, he then became a US citizen in 1992. His sense of humor was as vibrant as his spirit; he often joked that he became a citizen solely to cancel out his wife's vote, showcasing his playful nature.
A fervent patriot, Steve expressed his heartfelt convictions with candor and sincerity, never shying away from voicing his beliefs but remained respectful of opposing opinions. He started his work life as a tree trimmer before becoming an IBEW Local 17 Journeyman Lineman at DTE, where he found significant joy in working outside and the satisfaction of restoring power to people. Renowned as "Sir Fix-a-Lot," his exceptional problem-solving skills were remarkable as only a true Virgo would exhibit.
Beyond his professional commitments, as a younger man he was an extremely good hockey player and very entertaining to watch. Steve devoted eight years of service as a Genoa Township trustee, he was an Elks member and he held various roles with the Lake Chemung Riparian Association.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Laura Kidd Wildman, his mother Marie Allair Wildman, sons Steven (Shannon), Trevor (Brishelle), daughter Shanna (Jay) Morse, brother Randy (Anna) Wildman, sister Jody (Jim) Wright and nine grandchildren (8 born in a seven-year span!). He also had a niece Danielle Burkhart and nephew Cody Wright. He leaves behind his much-loved bird Loki and he is also grieved by his second family (the Kidd kids) and a multitude of friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his father, "Smokey" Morris Wildman, and his sister, Sherry Wildman Schwebs.
A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Watkins Brothers MacDonald Funeral Home in Howell, Michigan. Visitation will commence at 11:00 am, followed by a service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions to any bird sanctuary, the Howell Nature Center or the Livingston County First Responders Benevolent Fund are welcomed.
