Tony was born on November 28, 1933 in New York City to the late Stillman Wadsworth and Marie Shea Loomis, and was raised in Forrest Hills Gardens, New York.
He attended Xavier High School in Manhattan, followed by 4 years at Notre Dame University where he earned a degree in engineering. In 1955, he joined the Air Force, and after completing navigator training, served in Tripoli, Lybia. In 1961, Tony graduated The Wharton School of Business with an MBA.
On June 18, 1960, he married Elizabeth Seton Dempsey, from Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. The ceremony was held in Manhattan at the Church of St. Thomas More, followed by a reception at the Colony Club.
In 1964, the couple moved from New York City to Pound Ridge where they lived until 1977 when they moved to New Canaan.
Tony enjoyed a long successful career in venture capital, the bulk of which was with Meriwether Capital Corporation, an investment company established by the Rockefeller family.
Tony was life-long tennis player. His love for the sport began as a child playing in Forest Hills Gardens at the Westside Tennis Club. He was a ball boy for Jack Kramer, Poncho Gonzalez and other top players of the era, and he competed in the Under 16s U.S. Amateur Nationals. During his years in town, he was and active member of New Canaan Country Club where he enjoyed countless competitive matches.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dempsey Loomis, his four children; Mark Loomis (daughter-in-law Ellen Loomis) of Darien, CT, Peter Loomis (daughter-in-law, Darla Loomis) of Telluride, CO, Elizabeth Cunniffe (son-in-law, Frank Cunniffe) of South Salem, NY and Susanne Doucette (son-in-law, James Doucette), of Moncton, New Brunswick; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his sister Sr. Elizabeth Loomis.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Tony's life was held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan. He is interred at Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan
