Funeral services for Stuart C. "Stu" Nelson, age 87, of Norfolk, Nebraska formerly of Battle Creek, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at First Christian Church in Norfolk. Reverend Tim DeFor will officiate, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

Military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644, American Legion Post 16, and United States Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk.

Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.

Stu died Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Stuart Charles Nelson, son of Roy and Ethel (Lackas) Nelson, was born March 12, 1938, in Magnet, Nebraska, at the family farm. He attended school in Wausa, graduating from high school in 1956, and joined the Navy soon thereafter.

On October 30, 1964, Stu married Mary Jane Himes. The couple made their home in Norfolk before moving to O'Neill where Stu drove the bread truck, delivering for Old Home Bread. They moved to Battle Creek in 1976 when Stu got a job with UPS. They had four children.

Stu enjoyed watching sports on television and loved living in Battle Creek, where he would attend any local game that he could - whether his children or grandchildren were playing or not. He took great pride in his yard and could often be found gardening or working on his landscaping. Stu enjoyed western music and movies.

He is survived by his children, Mark Nelson, of Jefferson, Iowa, Natalie (Brian) Muldoon of Deputy, Indiana, Paul Nelson (fiancée Jill) of Norfolk, and Deadra (Gary) Shada of Pierce; grandchildren, Mickenzie Nelson, Masey Nelson (fiancé Josh), Britney (Matthew) Tyndall, Hilary (Nick) Hill, Brian (Rosemary) Muldoon, Jr., Anna Muldoon, Andy Muldoon, Charles Nelson, Saige Nelson, Katie Nelson, Brodey Nelson, Tori Nelson, Zach Kremlacek, Kendall Shada, and Kylee Shada; siblings, John Nelson of Wyoming and Marilyn Arnold of David City, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law, Frieda Belculfine of California, Mabel Blatt of Monroe, Nebraska, and Nadine Christensen of Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; his parents, Roy and Ethel; and grandson, Tannon Shada.
