Sue Ellyn Carpenter Barton, 76 years of age, entered the presence of the Lord on January 4, 2026, after a long illness with bone disease. She was surrounded by her family and left this life peacefully.
Sue Ellyn was an Author of 2 published Books, "Throw It in the Creek" and "My Blind Date," a Songwriter, a Recording Artist, a Playwright of 2 Dramas, "Ole' Mr. Peabody" and "We Want America Back" and a member of The Carpenter Sisters, who traveled extensively across the U.S. sharing their love of the Lord in song. She served on the Mission Field in Jamaica and among the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma with her parents on multiple Missions. She was an avid Bible Reader, since her early teens, and was blessed with a deep love of Scriptures. She served as a Sunday School Teacher in several Churches, where she taught children, teens, young adults and women's classes, and served as Pianist in 5 Churches during her lifetime. She loved traveling with her husband and had traveled to see the lower 48 States, as well as Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. She loved helping her husband renovate houses, before it was called "flipping".
She loved sewingand working in her home. Early in her marriage she worked in her beauty salon, "Sue Ellyn's Place", but only worked in the work place for six years of her lifetime, including accounting and secretarial employment. Very soon, however, she discovered she would rather work from home, writing, telling her stories through slide presentations, and practicing singing in her music room at home with her sisters, Odell and Carolyn.
Proceeding her in death are her parents, Rev. Lester and Mrs. Zelma Carpenter and husband of 55 years, William Russell Barton .
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Annette Barton Vann of Dodson, her son, Russell Travis Barton (Rusty) and his wife, Angela (Angie), her grandchildren, Landon Travis Barton and Noah Russell Barton of Dodson;Loren Sockey Desadier, Derrick Desadier and their son Rowan,of Winnfield; Dallas Sockey Price, Brett Price and their son Will, of Atlanta;and Dustin Sockey of Monroe. She is survived by her sisters, Odell Greene, Sheral andDonnie Maxey of Winnfield and Carolyn Skains of Dodson and a host of cousins and friends.
Services will be held at East Winnfield Baptist Church in Joyce, LA. under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in
Winnfield, LAIn lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made toward a monument honoring Mrs. Sue Ellyn and her late husband, Russell Barton.
