Virginia Sue Carroll, age 91, of Springfield, passed away on May 31, 2023, at Brookhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to John W. and Sue L. (McTeer) Fender on April 16, 1932, in Springfield, Missouri. She graduated from Willard High School in 1950. In 1975, Sue was united in marriage to Frank Carroll in Las Vegas. The couple shared 30 years of marriage before Frank's untimely passing in 2005. For more than 30 years, Sue worked at Kraft Foods in Springfield. It is there that she met her husband, Frank. Sue retired from Kraft in 1984 after many years of dedicated service as a supervisor. After Sue and Frank retired from Kraft, the couple started new jobs at Silver Dollar City where they worked in a variety of stores and shops. A few years later, Sue worked at the Dress Barn in Branson.
Sue was saved at a young age and dedicated the rest of her life to serving the Lord. She became a charter member of Southside Baptist Church on April 7, 1941, under the pastoral leadership of her grandfather, Reverend Bill McTeer. For the next several years, Sue endeavored to help Southside Baptist Church become a beacon of light shining forth with God's love in the Springfield community. Sue was a devout Christian who lived her life in accordance with the Biblical teachings of Jesus Christ.
For most of her life, Sue was an avid bass fisherwoman. When not at work, she spent most of her time relaxing on the lake or competing in major tournaments across the country. She especially liked to fish in Texas. During the course of her life, Sue won countless trophies and bass fishing titles. She always claimed to be a better fisherman that Bob Hartsell, her brother-in-law. She loved her home in Branson West and enjoyed living her life with Frank on Table Rock Lake. She was very content fishing with a simple hook and worm. Some of her family's best memories are of fish fries hosted by Sue and Frank.
Sue has been described as a feisty woman who loved bright colors and jewelry. She was always on the go and rarely had any down time. Her independent, outspoken, and ornery personality made her the life of all family get togethers. Everyone knew exactly how Sue felt and where they stood with her. Even so, she loved with all of her heart and gave 100% to everyone and everything. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Lowell E. Woods; and three sisters: Dana Sprinkle, Rama Hartsell, and Beck Friend. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Pinegar and Mickie Fields; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Sue Carroll will be laid to rest next to her husband in White Chapel Memorial Gardens at a later date. No visitation or funeral services have been scheduled at this time.
