Jerry Dee Garrison, Sr (1937 – 2025)
Jerry Dee Garrison, Sr. passed from this life to his heavenly home, on July 11, 2025, at 88 years old. He was born January 20, 1937, to Gene and Goldie (Kitterman) Garrison in Springfield, Missouri. He started school in the little one room Bluff school and then later attended Willard high school. He enjoyed basketball and boxing. As a teenager he began setting ceramic tile alongside his father and brother and he continued in that profession for close to 50 years gaining a reputation as a highly skilled craftsman.
As a young boy Jerry learned the love of hunting. As an adult he trained and hunted beside his trusty bird dogs and provided many tasty meals for his young family. He enjoyed working around the house and keeping his yard looking like a park.
In September 1956 Jerry married "that beautiful girl" Barbara (Mooneyham) in Springfield, Missouri. Their union produced four very much loved children, Delana, Sandra, Jerry Jr., and Jeffrey. Jerry and Barbara loved and provided total care for Jeffrey for 58 years until God called him home in June 2021. Their commitment to their children's health and happiness was an excellent example of true servanthood.
Raised in a faith filled home, as an adult Jerry went forward at Broadway Baptist Church (now Crossway Baptist Church) to accept Christ and be baptized. In later years when Jerry and Barbara were homebound with Jeffrey, and aging themselves, they faithfully watched the Crossway services from home.
Jerry is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Delana and husband Stephen Reynolds, daughter Sandra Garrison, son Jerry, Jr. and wife Gayle Garrison, six precious grandchildren, Jennifer Garrison, Lyndee Thornton, Kimberly McGarry, Josiah Garrison, Michael Reynolds and Tyrel Garrison, eight loved great-grandchildren, brother Ken (Pat) Garrison, sister Henrietta (Rick) Drake, sister Evelyn (Ken) McCroskey, and many loved nephews and nieces. Jerry was preceded in death by many loved family and friends including his parents Gene and Goldie Garrison, brother Bob Garrison, sister Nancy Williams, son Jeffrey Garrison and grandson Devin Phelps.
Services for Jerry will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, Missouri, on July 18, 2025, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Harrington Cemetery, Republic, Missouri.
Jerry was passionate about the safety and happiness of children, including children he had never met. Any donations received will be used by the family to enhance the lives of children.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
