Wanda "Sue" Dennis, 88, of
Huntsville, Arkansas, died December 23, 2025, at Countryside Memory Care Facility in Huntsville.
She was born July 26, 1937, in
Upland, California; daughter of James Wesley Gore and Mary Ida Matter Gore. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1955 and went on to get her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Arkansas.
Sue taught Home Economics for 35 years at Huntsville High School before retiring from teaching in 1997 and assisting her husband in running Huntsville Insurance Services until their retirement in 1999. She was the Vocational Teacher of the Year for the State of Arkansas in 1992.
She and her husband, Troy, traveled extensively and were fortunate enough to visit the Soviet Union, China, Europe, Africa, Greece, Brazil and all 50 states. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, gardening and spending time with her three granddaughters.
She was a long-time member of Huntsville Church of Christ. She was active in the Madison County Retired Teachers Association. She rarely went anywhere without former students coming up to her to visit about her classes. She taught students over a period of four decades.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Troy Dennis on March 24, 2021, whom she married July 14, 1962; one nephew, David Maxwell; one brother-in-law, LD Dennis; and two sisters-in-law, Frankie Littlejohn and Rowena Condley.
Survivors include her son, Marty Dennis and daughter-in-law, Susan of Rogers; her granddaughters, Emma Kennedy (Braeden), of Centerton, Lillian Dennis and Stella Dennis, both of Rogers; one sister, Sandra Maxwell and husband, Doug, of Garden Grove, California; one brother, James Edward Gore and wife, Marilyn, of Farmington; one niece, Candice Eno, of Henderson, Nevada; and one nephew Dan Maxwell, of Garden Grove, California.
Thank you to Tara Box, and the staff at Countryside Assisted Living, where Sue resided for the last five years of her life.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a graveside service at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Aurora Cemetery with Glenn Thomas and Larry Combs officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelby Sizemore, Alvin Lievsay, Tommy Tice, Winford Phillips, Gabe Wight, Earl McKinney, Jr., Charles Berry, Charles Russell, David Dennis, Randy Faddis, Steve Spurlock, Braeden Kennedy, and Tyler Brown.
Friends are also welcome to join in a Celebration of Sue's life at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks (4703 N. Crossover Rd.) in Fayetteville.
