Douglas Hunter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beasley-Wood/Geyer-Quillin Funeral Home - Mena on Feb. 18, 2026.
Douglas Ray Hunter Sr., age 78, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Born on March 6, 1947, to Paul and Madge Tate Hunter, Douglas was raised with the values of hard work, integrity, and dedication that would define his life. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Business Administration. Shortly after completing his education, he returned home to the family farm - a business homesteaded in 1935 - where he devoted his life to agriculture.

Doug also proudly served his country, joining the Arkansas National Guard in 1970. He served 22 years, retiring as an E-7 Sergeant First Class. His commitment to duty, discipline, and service reflected the same values that guided his life on the farm.

A lifelong farmer and rancher, Doug spent decades expanding and strengthening the family operation. He took great pride in continuing the legacy established generations before him. Farming was more than a livelihood; it was his calling. Through long days, changing seasons, and the challenges of working the land, he remained steadfast in his commitment to preserving and growing the homestead entrusted to him.

In his spare time, Doug loved to travel, camp, and take cruises, embracing every opportunity to see new places and experience the world beyond the farm. Above all, he cherished time with his family. Whether around a campfire, on a ship at sea, or gathered at home, those moments meant the most to him - especially the time spent with his 10 grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kaye Hunter; his sons, Ray Hunter and wife Shannon of Mena, Matt Hunter and wife Kelly of Mena, and Mark Hunter and wife Jamie of Farmington; and his beloved grandchildren, Hattie, Annabeth, Jackson, Tate, Alex, Nora, Avery, Lia, Zoey, and Nash.

Doug will be remembered for his strong work ethic, steady character, deep love for his family, and dedicated service to his community and country. His life was a testament to perseverance, devotion, and the quiet strength of a man who faithfully carried forward a family legacy that began in 1935.

His legacy lives on in the land he tended, the business he expanded, and the hearts of those who loved him.

Graveside services for Mr. Douglas Ray Hunter Sr. will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Rocky Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas. Brother Donnie Jewell will be officiating under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.
