Sue (Martin) Goehring, 86, formerly of
LaMoure, ND, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Litchfield, MN.
Born on December 9, 1938, in Marion, ND. Sue was the daughter of Russell and Bonnie (Anderson) Martin. She grew up near Adrian, attending school there through the eighth grade before graduating from Dickey High School in 1956.
Sue found the love of her life in Norman Goehring, who had returned to the Dickey area after serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. They were married on January 4, 1957, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children-Debra, David, and Barbara-in LaMoure.
Sue balanced her dedication to her family with her work in the community, starting part-time at Robideau Insurance Agency before moving on to the Federal Land Bank. She later worked in the Auditor's Office at the LaMoure County Courthouse until her retirement in 2000.
Music was a thread woven through Sue and Norm's life together. Both played by ear, and their shared love of music became a legacy passed down through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their home was often filled with song, laughter, and fellowship, creating cherished memories for family and friends. Sue served as the organist at Holy Rosary Catholic Church for 42 years, playing at countless weddings and funerals. Her heartfelt, graceful touch on the keys left a lasting impression on all who heard her play.
Faith was the cornerstone of Sue's life. Deeply involved in the Cursillo movement, she sponsored many women attending retreats and, together with Norm, hosted a Tuesday morning prayer group and breakfast in their home for over 30 years. These gatherings nurtured spiritual growth and lifelong friendships.
Sue also gave generously of her time to the LaMoure community, serving ten years on the LaMoure Ambulance Squad, working as the Disaster Emergency Services Coordinator, and contributing to the City Park Board. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Past Presidents Parley, and the LaMoure County Summer Musical Theatre.
Above all, Sue was a tireless supporter of her children and grandchildren. She was a regular in the stands and front rows, cheering them on at concerts, recitals, plays, sporting events, and figure skating performances. A passionate believer in lifelong learning, Sue encouraged higher education, often reminding others that "education is something no one can ever take away from you."
Sue is survived by her children: Debbie (Doug) Hennagir of Bismarck, ND; David (Charlotte) Goehring of Franklin, WI; and Barb (Tim) Plehal of Litchfield, MN. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Angela (Dan) Howard, Amber (John) Sheridan, Nicolas (Melissa) Lavoie, and Natalie (Neal Gerlach) Stoflet; and six great-grandchildren: Isabelle Howard, Evan, Owen, Bailey, Alexandra, and Lexi Sheridan. Also surviving are her sisters: Beverly (Eddie) Dunn of Fargo, ND; Sara (Terry) Freier of Mesa, AZ; Mikelyn (Jon) Kishpaugh of Eureka, CA; and brother Bruce (Sarah) Inman of Sacramento, CA; along with sisters-in-law Jean Lyon of Castle Hayne, NC; Marie Goehring of Dickey, ND; and Susan Goehring of Edgeley, ND. She leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Norm; her parents, Russell and Gladyce Martin and Bonnie and Jim Inman; her brother Barry Inman; and son-in-law Dan Stoflet.
Sue lived a life of deep faith, enduring love, and devoted service. Her music, her kindness, and her unwavering belief in the good in others will live on in the many lives she touched.
