James (Little Jim) Edward Schaub was born December 16, 1950, in Dickey, North Dakota, the first and only son born to Lawrence and Helen (Sommers) Schaub. He grew up in Dickey, where one of his fondest memories was riding his bicycle to play baseball in the league in Berlin, starting at the age of 10. He graduated from Dickey High School in 1968. After high school, Jim attended Wyoming Technical Institute before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969.
Jim was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, returning home to help on the family farm. In November of 1976, Jim married Virginnia Anderson. Together, they had four children: Kenneth, Amanda, Pamela, and Rebecka.
Jim enjoyed working for Anderson Bros in Edgeley, Ripplinger Commodities, and Midwest Motor Express before starting Jess Corp and hauling grain, gravel, and goods for local farmers. He loved the land he was raised on and found pride in hard work and quiet strength. He was proud of his grandkids and loved teaching them life on the farm, finding value in all sorts of treasures, and sharing his love of gardening and growing potatoes. His unique sense of humor, wisdom, and unshakable presence will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his children Kenneth (Rhonda) Schaub, Amanda (Mark) Meidinger, Pamela (Bill) Berntson, and Rebecka Lassen; 10 grandchildren, Trisha, Jacey, Wyatt, Karyssa, Hunter, Jonathan, Victor, Jamie, Lillian, and Henry; one great-grandson, Oliver; and his sisters Rita (Eugene) Wright and Cele Erickson. He is also remembered fondly by his niece and nephews, Andrea, Tony, and Greg. Jim is preceded in death by his parents and six sisters, twins Mary Helen and Anna Marie, Patricia Ann, Elizabeth Mary, Sally Ann, and Annette Marie.
He passed peacefully in his sleep on April 11, 2025.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in LaMoure. Jim will be laid to rest during a burial service to be scheduled on a future date. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and kind words.
