Eugene (Gene) Frank Hajek, 82, passed away on February 16, 2025, at Oakes Hospital. Gene, the son of Joseph and Anna (Domine) Hajek, was born on January 30, 1943, in Oakes, ND.
He grew up in rural LaMoure. Gene attended and graduated from LaMoure Public School. He was active in sports and FFA and recognized as a FFA State Farmer.
After graduation, he attended the agricultural short course at NDSU, worked for the LaMoure Creamery, and hauled gravel for Wendell Siedschlag.
In 1964, Gene married the love of his life, Janet Laine. Together, they raised two daughters, Tamra and Michelle, on their farm, which they named "Blowing Sands Ranch."
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gene played softball for many years on the Oakes, Verona, and LaMoure teams. As the years passed, he loved watching his children's and grandchildren's games. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Gene had a quick-witted, teasing sense of humor, which made his hunting trips, playing cards, and coffee at the round table memorable.
His passion in life was raising cattle. Even with his failing health, he was able to go out to the farm every day until the end of January with the help and support of Keith Hample.
He is survived by his wife, Janet (Laine) Hajek; daughter, Michelle Berry, Edgeley, ND; son-in-law, Erik Ness, Ada, MN; grandchildren, Kim (Kory) Ruggles, New England, ND, Brett Berry, West Fargo, ND, Krissy (Lee) Block, Fargo, ND, Katy (Andrew) VanHavermaet, Hawley, MN, and Nicole (Adam) Popple, Rubicon, WI; and six beloved great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Reagan Ruggles, Owen Popple, Hudson, Miles and Callen VanHavermaet. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph, and his loving daughter Tammy Ness.
Gene's legacy of love, laughter, and hard work will continue to inspire future generations. His memory lives on in every card game shared, every hearty laugh, and every moment spent on the field or in the farmyard.
He will be missed dearly, and may he rest in peace.
On Friday, February 28th 2025 visitation will be held at Dahlstrom Funeral Home in LaMoure from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service from 7:00–8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on March 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure. Gene's service will be live streamed below.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, or the LaMoure Legion Baseball.
