Miloslav Tomas Hajek, age 76, of
Manistique, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on April 22, 2025.
Born on December 9, 1948, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Miloslav was the son of Miloslav J. Hajek and Olga (Hubacek) Hajek. In 1972, he married Daniela Vlasta Seffl in Prague, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, resilience, and shared dreams. The family escaped from the communist rule in Czechoslovakia to Southern Michigan in 1979 where Miloslav spent the greater part of his life. Miloslav built a beautiful home on 10 acres in Britton, MI which was destroyed by a lightning strike in 2002. With Hajek resiliency and a little bit of stubbornness, Miloslav planned the construction of a new home on the same 10 acres. After completion though, he began a search for someplace kind, quiet and still within range of his son's and decided to relocate to the upper peninsula in 2010. Having an eye for seeing "a diamond in the rough", Miloslav began another rebuilding adventure with a basic home on 35+ acres of woodlands where he and his wife could enjoy nature and be near Lake Michigan to enjoy fishing, which was one of his favorite hobbies.
A self-made entrepreneur several times over, from running a used car business, breeding and selling tropical fish, with a final pursuit as the CEO of his own slot car business, specializing in sales and service in the Upper Peninsula. Known for his sharp mechanical mind, he held a degree in modifying conversion vans and also worked as a military driving instructor during his earlier years in Prague.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Miloslav had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and creativity. He found joy in fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, and hockey. His hands were rarely still-he loved woodworking and building and restoring vintage slot cars, a passion he turned into a full-fledged hobby business. His slot cars have become world renowned from North & South America to Europe, Australia and Africa renewing a popular hobby from the 60's and 70's. These slot cars became not only practical and functional but stirred memories of many people's youth as well as allowing a new generation of adults and children alike to join into a hobby that doesn't involve staring at a screen. His passion for restoring and custom-building slot cars from scratch created some rare and collectible slot cars.
Miloslav is survived by his loving wife, Daniella Hajek; his sons, Miloslav Hajek III of
Manistique, MI, and Tomas (Aubrey) Hajek of White Lake, MI; his three cherished grandchildren: Anika, Julian, and Nina; and his half-sister, Monika Jelic. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In keeping with Miloslav's wishes, no formal services will be held. Memorial donations may be directed to support his lifelong passion via PayPal to
