Shirley Worrel, 88, of LaMoure, ND passed away on the morning of April 16, 2025 at her home in Rosewood Court.
She was the daughter of Theodore and Myrtle Hample; born March 14, 1937 in Glover, ND.
She married Darwyn Worrel on January 7, 1955 in LaMoure, ND. They started their married life in the Berlin, ND area and then moved to a place of their own on a farm just outside of LaMoure, then to a farm in McIntosh County, ND, and eventually back to LaMoure. She and Darwyn built a farmstead just SW of LaMoure where they resided until 2022 when they moved to Rosewood Court.
Shirley's favorite thing to do was to ride with Darwyn out to "the farm" to get the mail, look at how the flowers were doing, and then continue the ride to see their land and the farms along the way.
Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in LaMoure for most of her life. She enjoyed singing in the choir and belonging to their women's circle. And the flower arrangements she made for the church were truly her gift to the Lord.
Shirley was Darwyn's most precious wife and best farming partner; she was a wonderful mom to their 6 children, awesome grandma to 8 grandchildren (and partner in crime at times), loving great grandma to 20 great grandchildren; and blessed with her first great-great grandchild born this year on her birthday.
Survivors include her husband, Darwyn; her children Sherilyn (David) Drenth, Skip (Loretta) Worrel, Syndi Worrel, Shelley (Mike) Anderson, Scot (Kami) Worrel, Shanan (Lonny) Raatz, and Patricia Rothmann (who mom said she adopted). She is also survived by one sister Carmen Heyd, Pierre, SD, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She loved Jesus with all of her heart and we just know she is watering flowers in heaven and making those arrangements for His Glory.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Hospice of the Red River Valley or your favorite charity in Shirley's name.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery near Lamoure. Shirley's service will be live streamed below.
