Sue Billie Matheney Lenox, 88, of Paducah, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, at her daughter's home in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Sue was born the daughter of the late James Faulkner Matheney and Pauline Way Matheney Timmons in Monterey, Tennessee. Sue attended Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. After graduation, Sue moved to Michigan to live with her aunt Katherine, where she enjoyed working at Stoffers and met her former husband, Gregory Ralph Lenox. They were devoted members of the Church of Christ.
Sue taught Sunday school, and they enjoyed sledding and ice skating with their three children on Thunder Lake. In 1970, they moved to Rockville Center, Long Island. Sue worked as a dental assistant and personal caregiver for John, a sea captain, and Virginia, who reached 104 years of age and volunteered at Mercy Hospital.
In 1984, Sue returned to Tennessee to pursue her dream of owning a gift shop, Red Violet. In 1987, she and her daughter, Susan Gay Lenox, drove cross-country camping, fishing, and sightseeing, filled with adventure. They visited her youngest daughter, Kristin Lenox-Rustin, in Ashland, Oregon. Sue moved to Chicago a few years later to care for her younger sister, Betty Ruth Rea. Sue worked for 15 years with the Illinois Tollway Division in Chicago. Sue and Betty had fun filling boxes on the Mars candy line during Christmas. After retirement, they moved to Antioch, Tennessee, to care for their mother, Pauline.
In March 2007, Sue and Betty moved a few doors from their nephew Kevin Rinearson in Paducah. They continued their devotion to our Lord with the Broadway Church of Christ, where they loved the seniors' trips and diligently worked to send children's aid worldwide. She was full of life with a bubbly personality.
She was survived by two sisters, Bobbie (Barbara) Tayes of Nashville, Tennessee, and Dottie (Doris) Maugherman of Myakka City, Florida; son, Damon Gregory Lenox and his three children, Jason, Ryan, and Ariana, two daughters Susan and Kristin; six nieces and nephews, Rhonda, Sheryl, Jerry, Gene, Kevin, and Michelle; and several cousins in Monterey and Cookeville, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her daughter, Susan Shawn, sister, Betty, and several aunts and uncles.
Tim Singleton officiated and burial followed at Welch Memorial Cemetery in Monterey, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be given to the Monterey Church of Christ, 308 West Crawford Ave., Monterey, TN 38574.
