Obituary published on Legacy.com by Creel Funeral Home - Lewistown on Oct. 14, 2025.
Susan "Sue" Anne Mossey Quick passed into the arms of God on October 11, 2025.
She was born in
Lewistown, Montana on May 29, 1947 to Leon "Cap" and Doris Wilson Mossey. The fourth girl in the family, her parents struggled to come up with a name. It was her sister Kathy, who came up with the name that was a character from one of her story books...not sure if mom ever forgave Kathy for the suggestion.
She grew up in the Denton area helping her folks on the family farm in the summers and moving into town with the family once school started each year. While in high school she was active in many activities including choir and playing the piano for a variety of groups.
After high school she moved to Great Falls to attend commercial college and was hired directly from that program by John Allen to work for Opportunities Incorporated. She would live and work in Great Falls for close to the next decade.
In the spring of 1974, she moved back to Denton to begin a new adventure as an entrepreneur of a small gaming hall, complete with pool tables, pinball machines, and snack bar. While having her cousin help her move in equipment, he recruited Glen Quick to help with the unloading. Of course it was only neighborly to thank the movers with a beer at the bar. That day started the next adventure. Glen and Sue were married on New Year's Eve of that year, being pelted with snowballs in lieu of rice by their nieces and nephews.
The next years saw Sue becoming a mother and farm/ranch wife. Times were tough with the drought and grain prices of the early 80s. Sue fell back on her bookkeeping skills and worked in the office for Cargill Grain. After several years, she moved over to work for Musick Implement/Meissner Tractors.
Sue was working at Meissners when Glen suffered a massive heart attack and passed in December of 1992. With the help of her children and neighbors, Sue kept the family ranch operational in some form or the other until she finally sold the last cow three years ago at the age of 75.
She did go back to the office a few years after dad died, working for a time for the sunflower seed plant and finally with NGS, "retiring" at the age of 70.
Her kids and grandsons always came first in her eyes. She worried about all of us and was excited when we were excited. She loved with all of her heart those that she held dear. She never forgot Glen and made sure we all knew our dad throughout the years with shared memories and antidotes.
Sue loved animals of all kinds, religiously feeding her barn cats and the plethora of birds that she loved to watch. Flowers and plants were her next big enjoyment. Her dogs Tess and Freya were her companions in the last years.
The community of Denton was full of so many kind people who mom cared for and who cared for her so much. Her "lunch buddies" Carmen and Barb, as well as her good friend Lena, headed up that list, but many more should be listed here as well. Suffice it to say that her kids know who you are and will forever be grateful for the love and assistance throughout the years.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband of almost 18 years, Glen Quick; sisters: Cheri Schmidt, Diane Young, and Kathleen Powers; brother, Leon Mossey Jr.; her parents, Leon and Doris; and brothers-in-law, Cliff Schmidt and Melvin Powers. The Mossey Sisters are once again together.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa (David) Mousel; sons, Morgan (Trena) Quick and Mason (Mickie) Quick; three grandsons, Mark, Seth, and Paul Mousel; special friend, Al (Duane) Lettengarver; brother-in-law, Ray Young; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Anthony's Catholic Church in Denton on Monday, October 20th at 10:00 a.m. Rite of Committal will immediately follow at the Strouf Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Denton Community Center following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donating to Alzheimer's research or your local pet shelter.
