Sue Railsback Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lasater Chapel on Jan. 6, 2026.
Sue Ann Railsback, age 84, of Powell, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 28, 1941, to George J. and Mildred (Haber) Stamm.
She devoted her life to education, family, and friendship, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity, and quiet strength. An educator for more than 30 years, she began her career at The Ohio State University as an Academic Counselor who worked with many student-athletes, helping guide them through both their academic and athletic journeys. She went on to serve as an elementary educator with Westerville City Schools, a middle school educator at Mt. Vernon City Schools, and later as a guidance counselor at Fredericktown Schools, where she retired in 2000. Throughout her career, she was known for her steady guidance, compassion, and genuine care for the students she served.
Sue was an avid reader and a proud member of Mt. Vernon book club for over 50 years, a testament to her lifelong love of learning and friendship. She cherished time spent traveling with her close friends, affectionately known as The Beach Babes, with whom she shared adventures for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Country Club and the Town and Country Garden Club, and an original member of a RODEO group that loved nothing more than watching movies and enjoying meals together.
She found joy and friendly competition in Mah Jongg, playing regularly with both the WWGCC Mah Jongg Ladies in Columbus and a group in Mt. Vernon. A loyal Ohio State fan through and through, she rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Buckeyes.
Above all, she loved her family. She delighted in attending her granddaughter's dance and choral recitals and her grandson's soccer and hockey games, always showing up with pride and encouragement. Summers spent with family at Emerald Isle, North Carolina, were especially dear to her and created memories that will be cherished for generations.
Her life was rich with laughter, loyalty, and love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Sue is survived by her son, David "D.R." Railsback IV; a daughter, Blythe (William) Wallace; four grandchildren, Olivia, Elizabeth, Joshua, and Alexander; along with a brother, William Stamm.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Railsback in 2015.
The family is observing private services.

So sorry to hear of Susie´s death, she was a wonderful lady. Susie was a wonderful guidance counselor at Fredericktown High School and I always loved talking to her. Because of her, our daughter Emily is experiencing a wonderful career in the Coast Guard. It was Susie´s idea to have her talk to the Coast Guard when they visited the school, the rest is history. Rest in peace, Susie, you were a wonderful person.
