Sue Ann Schaefer, 84, of Spencer, IA, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at St. Luke Lutheran Home.
Sue Ann Schaefer was born on August 20, 1939, in Pleasantville, IA to parents Francis and Frances (Galvin) Mason. She graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1957 and attended Simpson College, earning her B.A. in Education in 1961. She was united in marriage to her loving husband Denis Lou Schaefer in 1962. The couple eventually called Ames their home. Sue and Denis were blessed with two children, David and Emily.
Sue was employed as an elementary teacher in Webster City, College Community (Cedar Rapids) and Des Moines prior to serving many years as a 5th grade teacher in the Ames School District. Teaching was a true passion of Sue’s and she cherished her relationships with both the students and staff. Her love for her family always was a priority. Sue’s kindness, caring advice, and enduring support was so evident and much appreciated to those touched by her.
Sue is survived by her children, David (Laura) Schaefer, Emily Schaefer; grandchildren, Tyler (Shelby Meyer) Schaefer and Tanner (Micah) Schaefer; sisters-in-law, Elaine Mason and Linda Mason; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denis; parents; and brothers, Scott Mason and David Mason.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith Community Church of Milford, the Spencer Chapter of Special Olympics, or to the family.
