Sue Smith Vallelonga, age 76, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 16, 2025 at her home in Bowling Green.
She was born on January 16, 1949 in Columbia, Kentucky to the late Fountain Woodrow Smith and Elma Darnell (Antle) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe Claude Vallelonga.
Sue to many, wife to Joe and mom to Joseph and Angela but most commonly known to all as, "Nana" or "Mama Sue." She fed us when we were hungry, she fought for us when we needed an ally, organized us when we were in disarray, forgave us when we didn't deserve forgiveness, prayed for us always, and loved us unconditionally. She was our Matriarch, a leader who kept us together when we tried to stray, the true heart of our tribe.
Her memories will be cherished by her children, Joseph Mark Vallelonga and Angela Carmelle (Vallelonga) Miller (Billy); her adored grandchildren, Alexander Kennon Young, Canyon Dial Miller, Joseph Taylor Vallelonga, Lillian Grace Miller, and Emma Beth Vallelonga; her sister, Brenda Nissley (Vern), her brother, Dale Smith (Nancy) and several nieces and nephews and other family members and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 19, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Thursday March 20, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM followed by burial in the Bowling Green Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Sue's memory to The Alzheimer's Association and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
